The android uses a powerful linux kernel / it support wide range of hardware drivers .

The kernel is the heart of operating system that manages input and output request from software .It manages camra , keypad,display,etc.linux is very good at networking and it is not necessary to interface it into the peripharal hardware.

There is a set of libraries including open source web browser such as web kit , library libc , These libraries are use to play and record audio/ vedieo .The SSL libraries are responsible for interfracing security etc

These provides a key components called Dalvik virtual machine which is a kind of java virtual machine  it is specially machine .It is specially designs and optimize for android.

Symbian was the leading smartphone from 2003 up untill 2010 [even 2011 for europe After that GOOGLE, ANDROID IOS took the lead.

Android is another mobile operating system just like ios but Android was designate by google & it run unpopular rival phone to the iPhone such as Samsung, Galaxy, Sony, Moto, Nexus X5, etc

IOS is the closed system, compare with the open source Android in other words you can't install any software (Apps) on your iPhone or IPad that hasn't been approved by Apple personally converiely Android users can download and install apps from unknown sources, in the form of APK file.

These haven't been approve by Google & therefore could contain virus.
